LAKE FAIRFIELD

5/18/19

By Jon Griffin

WOODDELL/GILGER LISTEN TO FAIRFIELD FOR THE VICTORIOUS SACK

Longtime member & 2 time AOY Brandon Wooddell & hired backseat gun Mike Gilger listened to the fish making an on the water change to chase them deep for an impressive 3 fish limit @ 17.87 to take the win @ Fairfield last Saturday.  Wooddell & Gilger started fishing shallow with limited keeper success until Brandon threw a C-rig deep on a point nailing a 7.12 pounder.  That fish told Wooddell & Gilger to focus on similar points as the team saw success developing a milk run of points of hydrilla & adjacent deep drop offs as the key to their success.  A mere .01 pounds behind was Team Joe Lee/Mike Thurman with 3 @ 17.86, their 2nd top 5 in a row.  The sack included Mike’s tournament  big bass @ 8.49.  The 3rd place bag of 3 @ 16.40 was caught by Doyle Ray & hired gun Brandon Clayton catching most of their bass deep on C-rigs.  Father & son Brian & Kyle Barfield teamed up for the 1st time in a while to catch the 4th place limit @ 13.84.  And Joe & Tina Crouch took 5th on a lake Joe knows extremely well with 3 @ 13.73.

1st  Brandon Wooddell/Mike Gilger                 17.87         $376

2nd Mike Thurman/Joe Lee                                 17.86         $219

3rd Doyle Ray/Brandon Clayton                        16.40         $131

4th Brian & Kyle Barfield                                      13.84           $88

5th Tina & Joe Crouch                                           13.73           $61

Big Bass  Mike Thurman                                         8.49         $125

SCATTERSHOOTING

First & foremost, let’s give big thanks to God for protecting us from the stormy weather-just a few drops fell on us during fishing & weigh-in, we are oh so fortunate what we endured on the drive back did not occur on the water-thank you Jesus!...25 teams & 2 new members, welcome Evan Randazzo & Paul Tinsley…and awesome to see long time member Michael McAnulty fishing with us…this writer experienced the absolute worst case of biting gnats known to mankind, I had 12 huge whelps up and down my arm & neck, crazy…on a related note Donna David came prepared with a mosquito hat-genius…many of us had not fished this lake since it was a power plant lake, in fact the last time CCBC fished Fairfield was in 2008 when Joe Crouch & grandson Michael won with nearly 16 pounds…per Crouch, any color is good on Fairfield just as long as it’s Tx Red Bug and ONLY Tx Red Bug…Fairfield has a minimum length limit of 18 inches making a limit a little more difficult, interesting that out of 25 teams there were 5 limits, and those limits comprised the Top 5…next up on to Winnsboro!

LAKESIDE DEVO

Weigh master John Allen shared the devo on the subject of “TRUTH”.  Truth is defined in the dictionary as the body of real things, events and facts, the state of events.  Unfortunately in this day and age of Fake News, the common saying is “Make your own truth”.  The age we live in more than even is becoming TRUTH VS. DECEPTION.  The Bible calls Satan “the father of lies”.

John 8:44

You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

We’re all aware of what is going on in our society today.  If you pay attention to high school sports, a transgender can now compete & succeed in sporting events of the opposite sex.  This is part of Satan’s lie on the world.  God does not make mistakes, the Bible very clearly says “God made man & woman”.  But the devil is out to deceive people from the truth.  One might ask, why does God allow Satan to roam about causing trouble?  The answer can be found in the book of Job when God allowed Satan to disrupt Job’s life, but not kill him.  He’s been the disrupter ever since.  John Allen shared his appreciate for Judge Judy’s take on truth.  She said “truth does not require a good memory, but lying does.”  Always tell the truth makes life easier, being a liar makes things difficult.

John 14:6

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Truth always prevails, and as it says in Revelation, the truth wins.

Many ask why do things appear to be spinning out of control, the answer can be found in

2 Timothy 3:4

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.  People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,  without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good,  treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—  having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.

Trust in Christ, for he is The Truth.

RICHLAND CHAMBERS LAKE

4/27/19

By Jon Griffin

TEAM HULSEY/HOPKINS HAMMER ‘EM FOR RC WIN

Tommy Hulsey & Brian Hopkins protected their home lake with a convincing 3 fish limit @ 18.74 to take the win on Richland Chambers Saturday April 27th.  Brian & Tommy, who are also members of the Richland Chambers Bass Club coming off the club’s 2018 AOY, admitted even with their local knowledge their day was an absolute grind with the duo only boating 6 bass.   But they made their bites count with a 7.96 & 7.67 in addition to a 3.11 pounder to take the win, their 2nd in 3 CCBC tournaments this year.  2nd place was awarded to another hot team this year of Darren Coslin / Chris Boulet with 3 @ 13.16 thanks to Chris’s only bite and catch of the day in a 6.44 pound LMB.  The 3rd place sack of 3 @ 12.60 was caught by the new team of Todd & Mike Steadman.  4th place with 3 @ 12.55 including a 7.15 pound kicker was caught by team Joe Lee / Mike Thurman, and 5th place, fresh off their Classic win, was the father and son team of James & Eric Cook with 3 @ 12.35 including a 7.81 pounder.  Big bass was an 8.08 largemouth caught by new member Brice Bonner.

1st  Tommy Hulsey/Brian Hopkins   18.74   $480

2nd Darren Coslin/Chris Boulet        13.16   $270

3rd Todd & Mike Steadman              12.60   $168

4th Mike Thurman/Joe Lee               12.55   $112

5th James & Eric Cook                        12.35      $75

1st Big Bass-Brice Bonner                  8.08    $120

2nd Big Bass-Tommy Hulsey             7.96      $40

What a tournament for big bass, out of 32 teams & 60+ anglers here were the top bass caught:  8.08, 7.96, 7.67, 7.18, 7.15, 6.71, 6.44, 6.33, 5.69, 5.63, and several more 4+ pounders…new member & Vilbig stick Mike Gilger caught his personal best 6.71 from Brandon Wooddell’s back seat…speaking of Wooddell/Gilger, they win the dreaded 6th place just out of the money with 11.42, Brandon is still in deep anguish over the 7+ he lost right next to the boat…great to have new members including Gilger, Richard Robinson, Don Ellis, Jake Burchett, plus the Richland Chambers Bass Club sticks of Todd & Mike Steadman, Joey Hanna, Scott Hayes, Eric Chisholm, Brice Bonner, and Bobby Johnston-we do hope you come back to fish with us more this season!...speaking of Jake Burchett, it was great to have father Jamey back with us after his stroke scare last September…tough day for Charley David-no bass until after 2pm, good thing we drop the lowest tournament of the year…next up, we’ve swapped a flooded Whitney with Fairfield!

LAKESIDE DEVO

Kevin Davis shared the devo from a recent study he’d participated in involving Psalm 23.

Psalm 23

The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

He makes me lie down in green pastures,

he leads me beside quiet waters,

     he refreshes my soul.

He guides me along the right paths

    for his name’s sake.

 Even though I walk

    through the darkest valley,[a]

I will fear no evil,

    for you are with me;

your rod and your staff,

    they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me

in the presence of my enemies.

You anoint my head with oil;

    my cup overflows.

Surely your goodness and love (mercy) will follow me

all the days of my life,

and I will dwell in the house of the LORD

    forever.

As Kevin explained, throughout the Old Testament & even early parts of the NT, sheep & lambs were a very important part of life & society as they were the primary forms of sacrifice.  The shepherds had a very large responsibility as their lives involved the 24-7 care, protection & well-being of the flock of sheep.  In John 10:11 Jesus said “I am the Good Shepherd”, and Psalm 23 opens with David’s remarks of the Messiah “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want” meaning He will make sure ALL of our needs are met.  This opening line also poses a question we must all ask ourselves:  As it pertains to our own lives, are we the shepherd or the sheep?  “Lay down in green pastures” represents a safe watch over us.  “Waters” is interesting because the fact is, sheep are horribly terrified of moving waters knowing it brings great peril to their survival.  “Still waters” represents our relationship with God.  “He leads me for His name’s sake” is connected to God’s unchangeable reputation.  “Shadow of death” relates to the fact that sheep are extremely unsettled creatures, realizing that death is always near.  And lastly “goodness & mercy will follow me all the days of my life”.  Kevin shared that Goodness & Mercy could be thought of as the names of sheep dogs, following the flock, guiding & directing them as helpers to the shepherd.  Ironic that Christ is the Good Shepherd.  He is also the perfect lamb, the perfect sacrifice, the finisher of our redemption.  It’s up to us to accept His offer of redemption.  If you have not, accept His gift this very moment.

The Classic on Sam Rayburn

April 13-14, 2019

By Jon Griffin

COOKS SPEAR THEIR WAY TO CLASSIC TITLE

Father & son team James & Eric Cook managed 5 keepers from the north wind waters of Sam Rayburn to take the Classic Championship Sunday.   While many teams chose to trailer to protected coves on the windy Sunday, James & Eric chose to launch at Cassels-Boykin & make a longer main lake run resulting in multiple wave “spears” in the Cook’s Triton.  It proved to be the best move as James & Eric threw flukes for their 5 fish limit @ 11.78 including the tourney’s big bass @ 4.20.  They needed every last ounce as they beat team Griffin/Reynolds by a mere .01 pounds.  Ben & Steve’s 4 bass was a fish short of a limit giving them 2nd with 11.77, caught, of course, on their reliable soft plastic Rattlesnakes.  3rd place went to Charley & Donna David with 4 @ 11.02 flipping big weight tx rigs.  The 4th place sack of 5 @ 10.48 was caught by the Central Division team of Bob Reed/Mike Sedillo fishing Caney mid-lake with mini c-rigs.  5th with 5 @ 10.35 was won by Mike Thurman/Joe Lee who launched @ Cassels-Boykin & caught their limit pulling spinnerbaits thru the buck brush.

1st       James & Eric Cook                                            11.78       $1,500

2nd      Ben Griffin/Steve Reynolds                       11.77           $650

3rd       Charley & Donna David                                 11.02           $300

4th       Bob Reed/Mike Sedillo                                   10.48           $200

5th       Mike Thurman/Joe Lee                                        10.35           $150

6th       Brandon Wooddell/Keith McMillian            9.96            $100

7th       Kevin Davis/Byron McFarland                       9.19            $100

8th       Tony Hollingsworth/Bree Warron                8.92            $100

9th       Doyle Ray                                                   7.75            $100

10th     Randal & Kel Collins                                          6.97           $100

11th Les Smith/Mike Grimes                                         6.29           McCain Fishing Rods

Big Bass-James Cook                                                      4.20           $250

SCATTERSHOOTING

Big thanks for Allen Loggains from the Central Division for donating McCain Rods for the 11th place finishers, find out more about McCain Hi-Performance Fishing Rods @ www.mccainfishing.com …bad luck for Leisha Loggains & hubby Allen, they hung around through our weather cancelled day on Saturday to be greeted by a faulty trim motor on their brand new Triton, so no fishing for them…several reports of speared waves, Big Sam does indeed get angry when the winds blow…what was originally scheduled for a 2 day tourney got reduced to a 1 day after forecasters predicted doom for Saturday, in hindsight we perhaps could have pulled it off but gotten extremely wet…Team Collins ruined a lower unit during Friday practice, but got it replaced by a Zavala mechanic in time to fish Sunday…Team Cook had an eventful run to their victory-James owns a lake house on Toledo Bend, Saturday storms landed a tree in the road, resulting in the Cooks not even launching til after 8am but still finding the hawgs to win…many anglers stayed @ the Sam Rayburn Lakeview Motel, complete with a store & grill less than a mile from the Cassels-Boykin ramp, pretty sure we all recommend…and speaking of Cassels-Boykin, be advised that the park pavilion IS NOT necessarily open for public use, it’s $300 to reserve it-this was brought to our attention by a county employee, but he was very nice about it…next up, another big body of water on Richland Chambers April 27.

LAKESIDE DEVO & COMMUNION

Club leader Charley David lead to devo on this Palm Sunday morning, focusing on the Passover & how it’s historical meaning relates directly to Easter.

Exodus 12:1-14

The LORD said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt, “This month is to be for you the first month, the first month of your year.  Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man is to take a lamb for his family, one for each household.  If any household is too small for a whole lamb, they must share one with their nearest neighbor, having taken into account the number of people there are. You are to determine the amount of lamb needed in accordance with what each person will eat.  The animals you choose must be year-old males without defect, and you may take them from the sheep or the goats. Take care of them until the fourteenth day of the month, when all the members of the community of Israel must slaughter them at twilight. Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs.  That same night they are to eat the meat roasted over the fire, along with bitter herbs, and bread made without yeast.  Do not eat the meat raw or boiled in water, but roast it over a fire—with the head, legs and internal organs. Do not leave any of it till morning; if some is left till morning, you must burn it. This is how you are to eat it: with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. Eat it in haste; it is the LORD’s Passover.

“On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn of both people and animals, and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD. The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.

“This is a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the LORD—a lasting ordinance.

*As Charley explained, these were specific directions from God to Moses to the Jewish people for the sacrifice of the lame, safety for the 1st born with blood over the home’s door frame.  Very simply, the blood from a perfect lamb would save them from a certain death.  Therefore, after this directive every year, the Passover would celebrate with a perfect lamb sacrifice for the redemption of the sin of Israel.

The question is now-WHY NO MORE?

Simple.  Because Jesus was the FINAL SACRIFICE.  The perfect lamb, slain for the sins of the world.  On the cross, Christ declared “IT IS FINISHED”.   Charley then quoted the words of Christ.

Matthew 26:2

“As you know, the Passover is two days away—and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.

Christ told about his eminent crucifixion.  This had to be done.  For our own relationship with the Father (God) in heaven, it’s only achievable via the blood shed by the perfect lamb (Jesus).  It’s a gift-the gift of grace by faith, lest no man shall boast (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Charley then led us in the Lord’s supper, the tortilla represents the body of Christ, broken for you.  The grape juice represents Christ’ blood, spilt for you.  (1 Corinthians 11:23-29).

Amen, and AMEN!

TEAM COSLIN/BOULET VICTORS ON PALESTINE

Longtime members Darren Coslin & Chris Boulet bested the 29 team field with a 3 fish limit @ 15.94 including a 7.73 kicker for the victory Saturday on Palestine.  Their win in the season’s 2nd tourney of the season series was won primarily with Finch Nasty ½ ounce jigs.  2nd place went to the team of Jon Griffin/Pierce Johnston with 3 @ 14.45 caught on Texas rigs & swim jigs catching their fish.  3rd went to the father & son team of John & Sam Allen with 3 @ 12.56.  4th place weight of 3 @ 11.96 was sacked by Team Ben Griffin/Steve Reynolds; and the 5th place limit of 11.83 was awarded to Team Randal & Kel Collins.

SCATTERSHOOTING

Always great to welcome new members including Richard Roebuck from Terrell; and Michael & Clint Young from Waxahachie….Michael & Clint have the “New/Old” Basstracker rig, it’s a brand new boat designed exactly like the original silver & orange 1978 Basstracker….once again several members stayed at the Lake Palestine Motor Inn off the 155 bridge, still the best bargain on the series, 2 beds, nonsmoking, flat screen tv for $50…notice Eric Cook of Team James & Eric Cook took big bass honors with an 8 ½ pounder-the ONLY fish the team weighed in…five teams were just a small cull away from making the money…20 of 29 teams weighed limits….Kenneth Mahome fished with grandson Casan, who just a few days later broke his jaw bullriding, hopefully he’s improving and will be wired up and ready come April’s tourney…Darren Coslin threw a hub after hitting a stump making this the 2nd Palestine tourney  with the same resulting damage…sure it was a 6th place sister kiss for Team Lonny Pierce/Richard Robertson, but with a 3rd at Athens they are sitting pretty 2 tourneys into the season…remember we drop the low tourney of the year…perfect weather greeted us with mild temps & the wind cooperated for the most part…next up, the Classic, 2 days on big Sam Rayburn April 13 & 14, then off to Richland Chambers on April 27, or better known as “Hopkins Home Hole!”

LAKESIDE DEVO

If You Want to Know God’s Will, Just Open Your Bible

Jon Griffin shared a devo he’d read from Pastor Rick Warren about God’s will for your life and how to discover it.

Most of God’s will is already revealed. The principles are there! When you open your Bible, God opens his mouth and starts talking. Are you waiting for God to write his will in the sky? Why would he need to do that when he’s already written it in a book? Open the Bible daily, and see what God says.

Stop listening for a voice, and start looking for a verse.

Psalm 19:9-11

the fear of the Lord is clean,

    enduring forever;

the rules of the Lord are true, (that is, the teachings of YOUR WORD ARE TRUE)

    and righteous altogether.

YOUR WORD IS More to be desired are they than gold,

    even much fine gold;

YOUR WORD IS sweeter also than honey

    and drippings of the honeycomb.

Moreover, by YOUR WORD & TEACHINGS your servant warned;

in keeping them, YOUR WORD & TEACHINGS, there is great reward.

God will teach you his principles. Then, when you’re looking for guidance, you can see if your circumstances or your emotions line up with God’s Word. The Bible will confirm God’s will.

And keep this in mind: God expects you to obey what you already know before he shows you something new. So if God has already told you want he expects you to do and you haven’t done it yet, don’t expect him to show you the next step. He’s waiting for you to take the first step.

So what is the 1st step?  To know Him intimately.  ?  Very much like you know your boat, intimately, inside and out, bow to stern.  **Sorry to offend Mariner motor people, BUT the worst outboard I ever owned was a Mariner!  (Apparently I needed to know it more intimately!   Per Mike Thurman his ran great for a long time!)  But I digress, back to the lesson.

EXAMPLE, WHAT IS THE BEST DIRECTION IN THE ENTIRE BIBLE?

-SADDUCEES QUESTIONING JESUS JUST A WEEK PRIOR TO HIS CRUCIFIXTION “WHAT IS THE GREATEST COMMANDMENT?

Mark 12:30-31 30

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

Here’s how to hear God through His word:  meditate on God’s Word, an easy place to start is Psalm 23. To meditate on God’s Word means to think deeply and focus on God’s Word for a period of time. First, read the passage slowly, perhaps out loud a few times, placing emphasis on different words or phrases. Second, reflect on the truth of the text. Third, respond to God in light of what you’ve just read—this may be quietly or out loud. Fourth, rest in the Word of God, listening for what God has to say through the Scripture.

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want, I lack nothing.

He makes me lie down in green pastures,

he leads me beside quiet waters,

     he refreshes my soul.

He guides me along the right paths

    for his name’s sake.

 Even though I walk

through the darkest valley, the valley of the shadow of death[a]

I will fear no evil,

    for you are with me;

your rod and your staff,

    they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me

in the presence of my enemies.

You anoint my head with oil;

    my cup overflows.

Surely your goodness and love will follow me

all the days of my life,

and I will dwell in the house of the Lord

    forever.

You only have to open your Bible to know what God’s will for your life is. Then, you have to spend time reading and studying it so it can transform your heart and mind.

SCATTER SHOOTING

3rd place Lonny Pierce / Richard Robertson caught their bass on A-rigs …..……. 4th place Charley David / Al Kohutek fished mainly points and caught their fish on small red and purple worms drop shoting, C-rig tiny watermelon red brush hogs, and of course giant Senkos. One of their fish had a shaky head grub in its mouth from someone’s breakoff.  If the grub would have stayed in, it would have made a difference between getting 3rd instead of 4th ……………….. 5th Doug Powell / Carlo Gonzalez caught their bass on shaky head, chatter baits, and brush hogs ………..Big THANKS to Joe and Tina Crouch for providing lunch – Tina got another good deer this year so we had deer chili with all the fixings. Also thanks to Lake Athens Marina for the use of the picnic tables during the weigh-in www.facebook.com/Lakeathensmarinatx

LAKESIDE DEVOTIONAL – Are you talking to God?

Charlie David led the devo. Saying a vine has to be connect to water to grow, just like we need to be connected to God to grow spiritually.  We do this by talking with God through our prayers and connecting through the Holy Spirt.

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.  In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.  Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

The devil is crafty. We all know of or have a family member who has gone down the wrong path and gotten in the fast lane of life with drugs.  We need God’s armor to protect us from the devil. We need each other, we need the churches strength through fellowship and prayers for each other, and we need to guide our brothers.

Galatians 5:16-26

So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

For some people, church to them is being out on the Lake on Sundays - The church of the boat on the water.  The devil loves this and he knows you don’t have your armor on and are easily tricked into going down the wrong path.

Get in fellowship groups like this. Get in church groups and fellowship with each other.  Get with God.

Charley asked Kevin Davis closed us in prayer and we were dismissed.
